Ready to Go English Text Types

We believe learning English can be fun if children enjoy learning through stories and interesting activities. The patterned stories of Magic Box learned in lower primary provide a strong foundation for children to advance to Ready to Go English Text Types with which English are taught through themes in the middle and upper primaries.

Ready to Go English Text Types progresses gradually from themes children are familiar with, such as food, friends, animals, family and road safety, to themes of the wider world. Thus children learn related vocabulary in a meaningful context of the 72 passages that cover 24 themes.

Children love singing and find reading poetry enjoyable. Thus, each theme has a song and a poem. About 40 text types such as realistic stories, recounts, folk tales, letters, signs, diary, biography, travels, map and instructions are covered written from diverse writers and illustrated by different artists are included in the Ready to Go English Text Types. These enrich children’s exposure to a variety of writing styles and artworks, and western culture.

There are two books in each level: Book A and Book B. Each book has a corresponding Activity BookReady to Go English Text Types and Ready to Go English Text Types Activity Books fulfil the latest syllabus requirements of the Hong Kong Education Bureau set in the English Language Curriculum Guide.

The publishing of Ready to Go English Text Types and Ready to Go English Activity Books is the result of a six-year action research, the Greenfield Sunshine Balanced Literacy Programme, that started in September 2001. It is a joint effort of the teachers of G.C.E.P.S.A. Whampoa Primary School, Ms Wai Wai-ying of Greenfield Educational Fun Ltd. and Dr. Eva Lai of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
